Good Friday saw some of the Devil’s Elbow members joining other local clubs on a row from the centre of Nottingham, up the Trent to Newark. Using the ‘Explorer’ boats they negotiated multiple locks and beached them halfway along the route for a welcome picnic lunch. After that there was shuffling of the crews with with some swapping coxing and rowing. Some hardy souls rowed the full way and were especially appreciative of the catering laid on by Newark Rowing Club at the finish.
Andy:The day was a fantastic experience and thankfully with the weather on our side we got to enjoy some wonderful scenery along the Trent. Taking the boats into the locks was a new experience and a good chance to meet and chat with others from the local clubs too. Although I couldn’t feel my bum by the end, I won’t be letting that put me off signing up for next year’s row!
Louis:Spending time with crew through the day was relaxing and sociable. Incredibly beautiful scenery with perfect weather. Work was gentle, but persistent, tiring by the end. Great sense of achievement and defo a must-do annual event!
Murray:A great day out on the river, in good company. The event was well organised with good information, safety cover, excellent refreshments at the start and finish and even good weather.
Alex: This was a completely new experience for me and I was rowing as a last minute stand-in. I rowed and coxed on unknown waters, enjoying the banter and great support from the crew. An amazing day!
